State Testing 20-21 Update

Capistrano Unified has been informed that we will be moving forward with mandated state testing in May. In order to complete testing in a timely manner and have the least disruption for students Hankey Middle School will be on a special schedule the week of May 10th.

We will be following a minimum day schedule on Tuesday, May 11th, Wednesday, May12th, and Thursday, May 13th which will allow us to test in two testing blocks instead of testing over multiple weeks. Monday, May 10th will be our regular virtual Monday, and Friday, May 14 will be a regular bell schedule (8:00-1:45).

More information will be sent out regarding testing and schedules as we get closer to May.

INCREASING IN-PERSON LEARNING

Beginning the week of Monday, April 26, 2021, CUSD is increasing in-person learning opportunities for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. As one of the first districts in the state to provide students with an in-person learning experience during the pandemic, we have continued to adapt our instructional program to support our students and families.

What Will This Mean for Middle School Students?

  • Four full days of on-campus instruction for Program A students, with 5 periods per day
  • No change for Program B students — they will remain virtual, following their current schedules
  • Mondays will remain virtual for all students
  • There will be minimal or no schedule or teacher changes.
  • Students and staff will continue to be required to wear face coverings
  • Following new CDPH and CDC guidance, students will be separated by 3 feet in the classroom and on campus, and 6 feet of distance will be maintained while eating.

What’s Next?

  • If your child is in Program A “hybrid” there is nothing you need to do. They will automatically attend in person four days a week
  • If your child is in Program A “hybrid” and you wish to move them to 100% online, please contact Hankey’s office (949 234-5315) by Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
  • If your child is in Program B “virtual” and you wish to move them to four days a week of in person instruction (Program A), please contact Hankey’s office (949 234-5315) by Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Schools will maintain waiting lists and allow students to move to Program A if space allows
  • Friday, April 23, 2021, will be an independent learning day to allow teachers to prepare for this change. Your child’s teachers will assign independent work for your child to complete at home on this day.
