Recently the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provided updated guidance regarding face coverings when individuals are outdoors. This updated guidance impacts our school in two ways:
We are pleased to see a continued evolution to a greater degree of normal. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work to follow the guidelines provided to us by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
Here is a very easy way to help support our school’s IB programs, while you shop! When you convert your Amazon shopping app to Amazon Smile App, Amazon will donate a portion of all eligible purchases to our school. For more details, visit CHIEF (Hankey’s site-based foundation’s) website https://carlhankeyfoundation.org/supportus/
PTSA would like YOU to send a note of praise or appreciation. Visit Hankey PTSA’s website at www.carlhankeyptsa.org/teacher-staff-shout-outs/ to fill out a form to praise your favorite staff and teachers at Hankey, and nominate our monthly gift basket prize winner.
Would you like your child’s former or current teacher, or a special staff member to win this month’s prize? Nominate as many teachers/staff as you are able! Each month PTSA will take the submitted forms and do a drawing for one teacher/staff to win gift cards and/or other treats.
If you would like to donate non-perishable treats/prizes or small denomination gift cards towards our teacher/staff recognition fund, contact carlhankeyptsa@gmail.com. Thank you for recognizing our rockstar teachers and staff at Hankey!
Do you know a special grad who would appreciate special recognition in the month of May? Send a unique flock adorned with grad hats! Until the end of the school year, Hankey will be raising money for PTSA programs and events by sending flamingos to family and friends! For a small donation, you can surprise everyone by sending them a flock of flamingos that will decorate their front yard. Celebrate life events or just spread the flamingo joy in a fun, Covid friendly way. Under the cover of darkness the flock will arrive and stay for 2-3 days until they migrate to the next yard.
Visit www.carlhankeyptsa.org/flocking for more info and to place your order. Once the online order and payment is received by Hankey, a flock will appear in the recipient’s yard along with a letter explaining their arrival. You can choose to let the person know it was you who flocked them or keep it anonymous. If you have any further questions please contact our flamingo wranglers at carlhankeyptsa@gmail.com.
So… who will you flock this weekend?
Be the positive change that you want to see in the Hankey school community. You CAN make a difference! You can help in multiple ways but we are especially looking for candidates for the Chairs of Red Ribbon Week, Art Masters, Reflections, Box Tops, Fall Fundraiser, Hankey Hop, Book Fair & our Winter Event. No experience necessary!
Please contact our Executive VP, Jenn Katayama at jkatayama@gmail.com for more information on open positions and how to apply!

Hankey Middle School staff is looking forward to having all of our in-person students together four days a week, starting tomorrow, April 27th, with our 100% virtual students still joining their classes virtually. We will continue to follow safety and health guidelines with our students in class and during lunch. Please remember to send your son or daughter with a water bottle, especially as the weather begins to warm up.
An important reminder for students returning to campus– all students need to have a charged chrome book with them every day as we will still be utilizing technology to access CANVAS and assignments throughout the school day..
Hankey elementary students also returned to school today in one full group, so please remember to allow for extra time when you are dropping off your child, as the number of students on campus has increased significantly, and there will be more cars in the drop off line each morning.
On behalf of the staff, we are all thrilled to be bringing back our red and gray cohorts as one unified group of students for the remaining five weeks of school!
A Special Reminder for Music Students in Periods 1, 4, and 5
To allow students taking Spanish to have a designated time for Spanish class for small group support and extension, whether in-person or online, we have come up with the following schedule for students who have Music in their schedule periods 1, 4 and 5 only, for the remainder of the school year:
Mondays: All students virtual with Music.
Tuesdays/Thursdays: Red cohort attend Music and Grey cohort attend Spanish.
Wednesdays/Fridays: Grey cohort attend Music and Red cohort attend Spanish.
