Fifth Grade Families Info

Moving on to Middle School is a time of transition, and you may be wondering how Hankey’s Primary Years Program continues into the Middle Years Program.  Please take the time to watch this presentation, which includes a quick video by Mrs. Lohmeier about Hankey’s Middle School program from the perspective of a parent.  Here is the link to the presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1p-1AEpr6Z0V4PRyrsbw-2BBKM-UlNiOTSyTfXyEw8TA/edit?usp=sharing

As we begin planning for the 2021-22 school year, we would appreciate you completing this quick survey regarding your child’s middle school selection no later than Friday, February 26.  We appreciate your assistance with this!

Hankey Action Takers Honor African American Achievements

Black History Month is an annual national celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.  Hankey IB scholars, Zoe and River Johnson, decided to use Black History Month as an opportunity to take action and practice the learner profile traits of inquiry, communication and risk taking!  This amazing sibling duo committed to sharing the stories of notable African Americans with the Hankey community every Tuesday and Thursday, for the entire month of February.  Thanks to Zoe and River, we have learned about the achievements of Henrietta Lacks, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Jackie Robinson, Lindsay Harding, and Shirley Chisholm, and we look forward to next week’s stories.

Parents- if you would like to continue to explore the lives and accomplishments of African Americans with your learners at home, here is a forced copy link to an awesome library for Black History Month that Mrs. Reid recently shared in her virtual counseling office and Counselors Corner. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/11KuSB3WnEZL97CKiD9SZA5Nd5yClii1MQCj8rSamqtQ/copy

Safety During the 4 Day Weekend

Please remember that there is no school on Friday, February 12, and Monday, February 15, in observance of the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Enjoy this four-day weekend with your family!  School resumes on Tuesday, February 16.

With the upcoming four day weekend, we also want to remind you of best practices to ensure students come back to school symptom free. Please be sure to screen at home for illness before sending your child to school:

• Families will take student temperatures each day before going to school. Any student with a fever of 100.4 F or higher should not go to a school site. Personal illness, quarantine, and COVID illness or symptom related absence will be excused. Parents or guardians should continue to contact the attendance office when their student is ill and not attending school. Students with COVID like symptoms should remain home until symptom free for 3 days. The student should be fever free, without the use of fever reducing medication, for 24 hours prior to the return to school.

• Anyone who has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive within the past 14 days should notify their school office staff.

As a reminder, our Safety Plan, including protocols and procedures for families, can be found here: https://capousd-ca.schoolloop.com/file/1514016268908/1218998864154/3681796400305452815.pdf

Lastly, if you have travelled and will be quarantining, please contact your teacher for missed work.
